The opponents of Americans carrying a concealed weapon will tell you that it opens up the door to Old West style shoot outs or other scenarios where innocent blood is shed.
However, as Ohio shows, that are nothing more than propaganda created and spread by an anti-Second Amendment movement, who sit inside their protective bubble of ignorance, scared nearby might be packing:
When the law first went into effect, opponents argued there would be more crime and weapons assaults. That has largely proven to not be the case, Lorain County Sheriff Phil Stammitti said.
“We haven’t had any big problems since the law took effect in 2004,” Stammitti said.
Sigsworth said Erie County hasn’t had any major problems either.
“We have had very few issues with the folks issued licenses through our agency,” Sigsworth said. “And the vast majority appear to be law abiding …”
Imagine that. The folks who go to the sheriff’s department to get a license to carry a gun are, gasp, law abiding citizens!
Despite the facts, there are still those who oppose the semi-free exercise of the Second Amendment. They have the same argument. They have just moved the goal posts:
Despite few reported problems with concealed carry in Ohio, Toby Hoover, executive director of the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence, says the increase in concealed carry licenses is dangerous.
“As far as concealed carry, it is promoting a culture that is one of impending violence and fear and other people are convinced to carry,” Hoover said. “As far as numbers are concerned, even though it has become popular in some cultures, we keep advertising like more and more of us are protecting ourselves.”
Hoover worries that the perception is that a majority of Americans carry weapons but, in reality, she said, “we’ve got maybe 11.5 million people in Ohio, about 7.5 million adults over 21 who could get a permit, and, if you’re talking fewer than 200,000 people (with licenses), do the math. It’s not the majority of people.”
See what they did there?
The argument used to be, “If you let people carry concealed weapons, all Hell will break loose.”
Now, it’s “When enough people carry concealed weapons, all Hell is going to break loose.”
And who exactly is “promoting a culture that is one of impending violence and fear” here? The people who are asking for the freedom to protect themselves or the people spreading the meme of glassy eyed gunfighters and the innocent lives lost in Dodge City style cross fires?
Once again, if you want to see what liberals are up to, look at what they claim conservatives are doing.
The fact remains simple enough. Law abiding citizens will not turn into gun slinging, spree shooting Ike Clanton-esque knuckleheads.
They will remain law abiding citizens.
They’ll just be strapped.
