Having just lost her husband to cancer the week before, 18 year-old  single mom Sarah McKinley found herself in the middle of a home invasion.

With 911 on the line, she found herself in a terrifying situation when two men with knives busted into her house.  Clutching her three month old son and a shotgun, she did what she had to do.

She also holed up in her bedroom with a 12-gauge shotgun and a pistol, while she put a bottle in her three-month-old son’s mouth.

“I’ve got two guns in my hand — Is it okay to shoot him if he comes in this door?” McKinley asked the 911 operator.

“I can’t tell you that you can do that, but you do what you have to do to protect your baby,” the dispatcher told McKinley when she asked a second time. The call went on for 21 minutes as the men powered their way into McKinley’s house.

Eventually, Martin kicked in the door and charged at her with a knife, but McKinley fired before he could injure her.

She said, “I knew it was him or my son, and it wasn’t going to be my son.”

Amen.

There are some commenters at Huffington Post who wonder, “It seems like she was on the phone for 21 minutes with the dispatcher­. Where were the police ? How far is it to the nearest police station ?”

This is exactly why citizens have the right to carry a gun. When seconds matter, police are minutes away. Not to take anything away from the boys in blue, but they can’t be everywhere at once. This isn’t Minority Report. They don’t know what’s going to happen before it happens.

The fact is, the police didn’t respond and she had to defend herself. If liberal gun grabbers had their way, she would most likely be dead and her baby would either be orphaned or room temperature.

Another commenter wrote:

I’ve got no problem with guns in the home. A shotgun is an excellent choice for home defense. I still believe that we should be civilized enough to restrict weapons from public places. This gunslinger mentality will only end badly.

Because single moms don’t ever get attacked in public places, right?

Moron.

Same situation, different location. Sarah McKinley still has the right to defend herself, regardless of what gun slinging, fantasy world is created in the mind’s of liberals in America. The fact remains that despite an increase in concealed carry permits, Old West style shootouts have not occurred.

Responsible gun owners will behave responsibly with their guns. Criminals will try to hurt teenage single moms. And armed single moms will hopefully respond the way Sarah McKinley did.

She did the country a service and is a role model.
