President Bush wants us to be happy that the federal deficit is lower:

President Bush on Wednesday reported modest improvement in the federal deficit for this year though the longer-term fiscal picture has deteriorated slightly.

The deficit figures released by the White House predict $205 billion in red ink for fiscal 2007, which ends Sept. 30, a slight improvement compared with the $244 billion Bush predicted in February.

I will be happy when we don’t have a deficit. Or maybe even a surplus. Don’t make the mistake in thinking I am against Bush’s tax cuts. I’m definitely not. I am against government spending money on things it shouldn’t, especially money it doesn’t have to spend.

Want to impress me, George? Repeal your Medicare Drug Program, close the Department of Education and keep closing government agencies until we have a budget surplus. That’ll win you some points with more people than you think.
