If you missed the link on either of the massive Brett Kimberlin timelines I posted on Friday and Saturday, it might be news to you that a domestic terrorist who was jailed for bombings that resulted in a man’s leg being blown off has been embraced by the left, funded by them and is now targeting conservative bloggers.
So far no one has died, but not from a lack of trying by leftists:
What you just heard and read is no joke. It actually happened. The phenomenon is called “SWATting,” because it can bring a SWAT team to your front door. SWATting is a particularly dangerous hoax in which a caller, generally a computer hacker, calls a police department to report a shooting at the home of his enemy. The caller will place this call to the police department’s business line, using Skype or a similar service, and hiding behind Internet proxies to make the call impossible to trace. Anxious police, believing they are responding to the home of an armed and dangerous man, show up at the front door pointing guns and screaming orders.
That is exactly what happened to me. It is a very dangerous hoax that could get the target killed.
Above: an anonymous Kimberlin supporter mocks my swatting in August 2011, before it was publicly known. The reference is to an article about a 2008 swatting case in Dallas.
Although I am an L.A. County Deputy D.A., it is certain that I was “swatted” because of my blog and not because of my job. As Andrew Breitbart noted, this happened to two people within the course of a single week: a man in New Jersey and myself. Both of us had had contact with Andrew Breitbart. Both of us were writing about the same story. And both of us received email threats days before we were swatted. The threat to me said, in part: “Please think about your family. This story is not worth it. I can assure you that.”
Over the weekend, Red State’s Erick Erickson also had law enforcement at his house:
Tonight, my family was sitting around the kitchen table eating dinner when sheriffs deputies pulled up in the driveway.
Someone called 911 from my address claiming there had been an accidental shooting.
This isn’t an innocent prank. People get killed in situations like this.
When they aren’t doing things that could get us killed, these folks are filing one lawsuit after another:
As Walker reported, Kimberlin has already been to court a number of times litigating “peace orders” evidently designed to prevent Walker from blogging about Kimberlin’s past as a convicted bomber and perjurer. Now, Walker reports that Kimberlin has filed yet another one:
So here we go again. His abuse of the legal system continues. This is plainly in retaliation for my post exposing with video and documentary evidence, his recent criminal attempt to frame me for a crime.
Bluntly, this is illegal under the Peace Order statute. The court would have to find I did some kind of physical act against him, or that I stalked him or something like that. I have not even been in Maryland for well over a week and I simply put have never done anything to put him in reasonable fear of his life. I haven’t even seen him outside of court. I can’t say I have never been in his presence because somehow he or one of his allies has snapped a picture of me surreptitiously, so maybe he was nearby and I didn’t know. But I know I was never knowingly in his presence in the last 30 days.
The reference to a surreptitious picture is to a post on a blog (which I will not link) run by either Kimberlin or a close associate, that recently published a picture of Walker from a low angle, evidently taken inside a courthouse. Evidently he was being followed by someone in the courthouse, on one of the appearances Walker made to deal with this serial litigant.
Kimberlin uses the legal process to wage war against people who have told the truth about him. This is not about politics. It’s about how one man, together with a small crew of enablers, can use anonymous libelous speech on the Internet and frivolous actions in court to try to squelch truthful speech about his criminal history. [Emphasis mine.]
Or, as Stacy McCain says:
What we have here is a remarkable news story, and the story is not about me. It’s not about Aaron Walker or Mike Stack or Seth Allen or Patrick Frey or Erick Erickson or Mandy Nagy.
This is a story about Brett Kimberlin. What is truly dumbfounding is that Kimberlin’s old media buddies like Nina Totenberg think we’re too stupid to notice them ignoring it.
You know what they are doing. What do we do about it?
Michelle Malkin has some ideas:
3. Hold the financial aiders and abetters of Brett Kimberlin accountable:
Action alert: Ask the State Department about its “partnership” with Kimberlin’s shady social justice music outfit, Justice Through Music Project.
Action alert: Press other JTMP donors — including Fidelity Investments, the Schwab Charitable Fund, the Tides Foundation, and Threshold Foundation — for answers about their relationship with JTMP.
Don’t take “no comment” for an answer.
While I doubt I’m big enough to merit the attention of Brett Kimberlin or his cohorts, it’s possible there could be some local liberal knucklehead who would get a kick out of sending the sheriff and his deputies to my abode, so I’m going to follow Erickson’s lead and contact them first. I shouldn’t have to, but history shows the radical left answers freedom with violence.
So, next time some leftist tells you how much they value freedom, especially freedom of speech, remind them of the thug tactics used to try to intimidate free men into silence. Tactics that force families to relocate and people to lose jobs.
Tactics that have been used for generations.
