The 10 Most Outrageous Political Terrorists of the Right Wing Mob

(I wrote this article very tongue in cheek. I wanted it to come across as a bit sarcastic, but it was hard for me to pull off, as I hated talking bad about these folks. I hope you understand that I am trying to illustrate the stupidity of the Democrats in labeling the protesters as a mob, or political terrorists, when they are following the role models below, the first Americans to rage against the tyranny of the established government. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks.)

With the overwhelming amount of chatter coming from the Democrats about the uproar Americans are causing at town hall meetings, I thought it would be important to take a look at the people who were behind this attitude, this belief that the people should come before those in government and demand they listen.

There are a select few who are the most outspoken, some more extreme than others. Some of these “political terrorists” simply demand liberty, while others speak plainly of the need for bloody revolution every now and then. They all, however, are quoted and inspire the rabble-rousers disrupting today’s town hall meetings.

Read the words they use. When you do, you get a look at the attitude of today’s town hall protester.

Nathan Hale was so extreme that, when seeing he was to be martyred by the British, wished he could die over and over again. That’s some hard core right wing lunacy.

Hale was a spy for General George Washington, another right wing extremist who we’ll get to in a moment. When Hale was caught and sentenced to hang, he reportedly told the British soldiers, “I only regret,” he said, “that I have but one life to lose for my country.”

While Hale didn’t actually say much, it’s the extremist nature of his most remembered comment that earns him a spot on the list. Wishing you could die repeatedly for libertarian values? This kind of thinking empowers others to keep fighting for ideals such as freedom, individualism and liberty. You can see how the left finds it dangerous.

Sam Adams, besides being a very tasty beer, was another right wing nutcase who caused nothing but trouble. He and his cousin, John Adams (who also made the list) were an integral part of a right wing movement that ended in bloodshed. We call it the American Revolution.

If you think this guy isn’t behind the town hall protests, think again. Here are his instructions, which you can see played out in town hall after town hall:

“It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds”

I’m surprised no one has torched one of these buildings yet, with reckless rhetoric like that. He also told people to go out and fight:

“The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending against all hazards: And it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.

What liberties is he talking about? He spelled that out as well:

“Among the natural rights of the colonists are these: First a right to life, secondly to liberty, and thirdly to property; together with the right to defend them in the best manner they can”

This guy is telling people to defend their property against all attacks, in the best manner they can, and to set brush fires. Dangerous? I guess if you are a statist bent on the redistribution of people’s property, that kind of thinking would be bothersome, especially if a lot of people starting reading and remembering it. (Hint: Stumble and Tweet this article and many will.)

The first President of the United States on the list, John Adams was a dangerous man. As noted above, this fella started a war before war mongering was even cool. And then, in typical right wing fashion, he skirted the blame:

“The Revolution was effected before the War commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments of their duties and obligations. This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people, was the real American Revolution.”

There is no doubt John Adams inspires this mob of misfits. Look at the type of extreme mentality he espouses:

“The jaws of power are always open to devour, and her arm is always stretched out, if possible, to destroy the freedom of thinking, speaking, and writing”

“There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty.”

How can a group be expected to be civil when people like John Adams continue to spread fear of government in this way? All in the name of liberty…

The father of the Constitution was another trouble maker. I’m sure if he were alive today, Nancy Pelosi would accuse him of wearing a pair of Nazi pajamas. James Madison sets the mob off, especially with comments like these:

All men having power ought to be distrusted to a certain degree.

Again, spreading fear. This is becoming a common theme, not only on the list but in the town halls. It lead poor Claire McCaskill to wonder aloud, “You don’t trust me? I don’t know what else I can do?” But Madison isn’t finished. He, like other right wingers, puts property above the collective:

By rendering the labor of one, the property of the other, they cherish pride, luxury, and vanity on one side; on the other, vice and servility, or hatred and revolt.

He’s justifying the behavior of the rabid mobsters at these town halls, by blaming the leftists who are trying to impose a government health care system the people don’t want. Outrageous!

Here’s another justification of the irrational behavior of the right wing masses:

We are right to take alarm at the first experiment upon our liberties.

Now this guy, he’s trouble.

Benjamin Franklin not only stirred up things in America, but he was know for recruiting trouble from all around the world. Right wingers back in his day used to send him places so he could bring back folks to fight with them. Sort of a colonial “Astroturf” genius.

But he also had a smart mouth and like to use it. For example:

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

This quote was bandied about during the Patriot Act days, but it is equally usable by the anti-health care reform crowd. After all, they think they are giving up liberties, such as what doctor to use and what operation they can have, for the security of government coverage. (It’s still liberty and it’s still false security, right?)

“The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself.”

Clearly Franklin didn’t understand the “General Welfare Clause.” The Constitution gives people the right to anything the Congress says. That’s what the Supreme Court said, anyway. But right wingers still think they understand the Constitution better than the Democrats.

Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet called “Common Sense” which, in its day and in “relation to the population of the Colonies at that time, had the largest sale and circulation of any book in American history. Common Sense presented the American colonists with a powerful argument for independence from British rule at a time when the question of independence was still undecided.”

It was pretty much nothing but right wing propaganda. Oh yeah, he knew how to fire up a gaggle of right wing nutcases. In his little pamphlet, he wrote all kinds of libertarian nonsense, like:

Society in every state is a blessing, but government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one; for when we suffer or are exposed to the same miseries by a government, which we might expect in a country without government, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer.

You can see why right wingers think he’s a great mind, what with his hatred of government. Here’s another example:

When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary.

I’m surprised this hasn’t appeared on a sign yet. After all, conservatives are saying that this will lead to bad things down the road, despite what Democrats say now. That’s exactly what Paine wrote. Whatever the writers of this bill mean today won’t necessarily be what future Congressmen and Senators think it means, or they might warp it to fit their personal world/political view.

LIke that could happen in America…what a fear monger.

Patrick Henry

Another nutcase ready to die.

Patrick Henry was so far right, he would rather die than serve a master. He is known for the phrase, “Give me liberty or give me death” but there is more to that speech that those seven words. He said:

Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!

History tells us that after he said that, those around him were ready to wage war, shouting “To arms! To arms!” Were this guy at a town hall today, we would probably have a representative dead, shot by one of those gun toting racists black guys MSNBC is worried about.

Here’s another reason this fella is making waves today. He doesn’t want anyone to trust the government either. He told the citizens:

Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.

Not only is he telling them to suspect everyone, but he’s telling them to use force. This guy is all about force. Or death.

He’s dangerous.

John Jay

John Jay has one quote that right wingers love, especially the more libertarian ones. It’s pretty simple:

No power on earth has a right to take our property from us without our consent.

And despite what the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals says, these folks still consider money their property, meaning whenever taxes are collected, they feel they are having personal property taken from them without their consent. I’ve heard more than one protestor say they don’t like to have their property taken from them and given to someone else. Where do you think they learned that type of thinking?

Hint: John Jay.

He wrote quite a bit as well. He, along with Madison and Alexander Hamilton, wrote the Federalist Papers, which are still used today to try to defend right wing positions.

George Washington

The General not only spoke of right of center values, but he took up arms for right of center values. This gentleman lead men to war, where they killed for the type of thing these town hall protestors are extolling. Many of the mob find inspiration in this man. They find comfort is the things he said, like:

Experience teaches us that it is much easier to prevent an enemy from posting themselves than it is to dislodge them after they have got possession.

Give you any idea why these people are showing up? Gen. Washington still commands the right. Get in there and stop this from happening. It’s easier than removing it later. No wonder these guys are so rabid. Washington has them terrified.

He also preached about fearing government. Noticing a theme with these extremists? It’s common on the right:

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

Washington. Demonizing the government since before demonizing the government was cool on the right.

Thomas Jefferson

I’ve left the worst of the lot for last. This guy’s words have already appeared at an Obama event, being held up by a guy with a gun.

What were the words? The most dangerous kind. He advocates the spilling of blood:

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Un. Be. Lievable.

How irresponsible is it for this right wing blowhard to say something as outrageous as that. That’s not all. Right wingers love to quote this guy. He may be the Democrat’s man, but look at the rhetoric he’s responsible for:

To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them but to inform their discretion.

A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned – this is the sum of good government.

Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state.

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security.

And finally:

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Let me be serious now.

The men above were the original right wing mob who changed history. They preached liberty and distrust of a powerful, central government. They understood freedom was fleeting and that eventually, you would either have to submit to a tyranny, or fight for your freedom.

All the people today want is a little bit of the power back that the Founders and the Framers gave to them, not to the Congress, or the White House or the courts. They just want to be heard and understood. But the Democrats not only reject their positions with dismissals, or talk on the phone while they ask questions, they call the protestors vile names like “political terrorists.”

King George said, “I desire what is good. Therefore, everyone who does not agree with me is a traitor.”

When you look at the words the Democrats use to describe the protestors, and compare it to what King George said about the men above, you get a better idea of whose side you should be on.

If one side is for liberty, then what is the other side for?

    At least their cause was based in reality… these days people all so polluted that they can’t tell the truth when it’s placed right in front of their face. Our next revolution will bring down everything that made America great.

    The biggest problem today is that we are so divided that regardless of truth we simply take sides. Nobody thinks for themselves, especially the ones that participate in this nonsense. Democrat or Republican, just two wings of the same bird regardless of which one is flapping the direction remains the same. If we truly wanted the problems resolved we would do away with the lunacy and sit down and try to solve problems in an intelligent manner.

    However at this point I don’t see any signs of intelligent life in this country, and I think we are doomed. So keep writing these types of divisive articles and let’s see how divided and stupid we can become.

    Notwithstanding the sophomoric comment by Rick; who, like so many that have been hypnotized by flowery rhetoric from clever but warped and narcissistic “organizers”, seem to want to give up and hand their fate over to self appointed “deciders”. Your article renews my spirit that those steeped in the history and precepts of our nation can stop this train wreck in it’s tracks. We can and we must block this legislation in any form from being considered. The brave and wise men listed above were the catalyst and “birthers” that bought the liberty we enjoy today. It’s refreshing to see this perspective; heroes of a bygone day who’s words can yet again plunder the tyranny of those that would exalt their power above the promise of individual freedom. The leaders of the current majority are traitors and should be spoken of and treated as such. We should all demand to the continued right to contract with anyone for any service or good, whether it be a tool to build with, a property to live upon, or the mending of a broken body. Anything less is capitulation.

This makes me remember GWB’s regime?: a presidential appointment, emergency presidential powers, a PATRIOT Act, 2 mid-east wars (neither complete), Guantanamo, torture… oh, and racking up the national debt some $4Trillion, a 70% increase, to be paid off for generations to come! wow. Do you remember?

    Two-skinned Obama has now also been spending more imaginary money and creating more debt to compensate for public and private spending negligence (wtf!?) and this new badly-timed healthcare reform bill seems to send some collectively scrambling up the wall into Crazyhipocracyville, where all reason and balance is lost to faith-based politics. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid! The so-called “far-right” leadership of today is clearly pushing for the same economic and social slavery that our founders warned against. The rest is competitive, glamorous political stupidity.

    Well growing up learning of these sort of trouble makers it does not surprise me we have learned from the worst. Fortunately, when our generation goes, the next generation will not be so cursed with the capacity of dissent. I asked my son if he has learned of these men in his studies. He said yes to Ben Franklin, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson but has only read about some of the others through non-school sources on his own. Public school continues to improve their education. Moving away from useless ancient history and on to more contemporary agenda such as keeping them in school, training for SAT, study on Aids and Racism. That leaves less and less time to teach the other.

    ZMac, I just have to ask why you left out LBJ & FDR from your list of Presidents who had run up huge deficits. After all, FDR is the Father of all Entitlement Programs and should be remembered as the first President to throw the Constitution out the window in an attempt to retain his seat of power. Only Death was a greater power than FDR for which we can all be thankful as we would have been living under social welfare totalitarianism for decades. What did you say? Oh, we have been living in that state for decades. We can lay the blame for that at LBJ’s door.

    This country has been on a downhill slide since FDR. The liberty my parents and grandparents enjoyed have been nibbled away at until I look about me and wonder just what the heck has happened to this once great Nation. My ancestors were some of those inspired by the words of Jay, Adams (2), Jefferson and Washington. They fought, shed blood and died on the battlefields of the Revolution. It sickens me to be told that because I believe in personal freedom and liberty that I am somehow un-American. I am an American! Not a German-American or an Irish-American or any other type of pseudo American. I am simply an American and I have always been proud to say so.

    Ok…calm down people. These men were geniuses of the enlightenment. Take Jefferson. Multi lingual classicist who read the Bible in the original greek just so that he could mock it?

    These men bear little resemblance to the shitbrains we have on the right these days. William F Buckley tried to discipline the sort of lunatic rantings we hear today but he was one man and guys like Lee Atwater made sure that the Republican Party would eventually go down in flames by aligning itself with the Religious, Racist, crazies of the old Confederacy.

    Where were all of you Libertarians when Bush the Lesser opened a vein at the Treasury and then plunged us into two wars? I agree that the Afghans needed some of Rummy’s medicine, but an immediate and patriotic repeal of the tax cuts would have been the sane thing to do.

    I’m sorry…our military is TEN TIMES the size of the next largest force on the planet. We can freely spend those billiions sheltering every other democracy on the planet but we can’t offer basic services to our own people?

    Our boys die in the mountains of Afghanistan so that the fucking Dutch can smoke weed on their month off and the government pays for their health care?

    Bring ‘em home. Bring ‘em home from Japan and Germany too. Let Korea settle their own shit. Let the Aussies be overrun by the Chinese. Bring ‘em all home, keep their powder dry, and put them to work fixing THIS country. Healthcare, Education, Industry, Jobs, Technology.

    We’ll be flying water powered cars back and forth to our 10 hour work weeks while the rest of the planet is knawing on each other’s femurs.

    But not if we let asshats like this guy have any say in the matter. Sorry.

I would say that our military is “TEN TIMES” better than any other force on the planet precisely because we spend billions of dollars to recruit, train and arm the best soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen on the planet. Please check your facts in the future.

    A second point regarding your isolationist theory – leaving tyrants and despots unchecked by any superior military power would eventually lead to something similar to the 1940′s, I think it was called a World War and I think it was caused by superior powers allowing a maniacal dictator to rule unabaited. Your theory was exactly the policy of the US gov’t right up until the bombs started falling in Hawaii.

    And as far as THIS country goes, I think it is a credit to the infinite superiority of American Exceptionalism that we as a people can manage to live in and maintain the best country in the history of the world while thousands of our best and brightest are off in other lands defending those who cannot defend themselves.

    Yes I would like to have every american service man and woman home with his or her family, but I trust if you would ask them, most prefer it just the way it is.

    I think every incumbent needs to be voted out next election. Every one of them has abdicated their responsibilities. They abuse power and do not represent the will of the people.
    Consider: Any member of house or senate who voted for stimulus bill without reading it or allowing time for others to read it should be impeached. What if you signed a policy at your employment and then later admitted you did not read it or allow other principals to read it prior to signing? This is abdication of duty. Open your eyes!
    Consider: Any member of the house or senate who voted for the war in Iraq was incompetent because they did not do diligence. Regardless of what they were told they were responsible to KNOW if there were WMD. If you performed as poorly as they did in this situation at your place of employment; you would be terminated.
    Consider: Any member of the house or senate who was responsible for banking regulation / deregulation or Fanny or Freddy regulation was inept and should receive a vote of no confidence. If you were in similar circumstances and responsible for a segment that impacted the whole company, and then stood before your employer at a 4PM meeting and said the company was going to implode unless they forked out billions of $ because this same segment was failing, they would escort you out the door.
    Consider: Anyone who is working to implement healthcare reform at a time when there is no GDP because there are no jobs is at the least irresponsible. It does not take a rocket scientist to know one cannot add more tax deficit when there are less taxes being paid into the IRS. If you stood before your employer and asked for a new non-critical program in this economy, they would laugh you straight out the door.
    Consider: Any member of house or senate who denigrates an average citizen who questions their actions, is at the least “acting stupidly”. Do you think your employer would allow you to treat customers the way your fellow citizens have been treated? What if you asked a customer what planet they were from? This is the clearest example of an out of touch, self serving government, and one who needs reminded who put them there.
    Do you see what I am saying…I could go on and on…
    This is not Republican or Democrat, this is common sense. They are all incompetent. It is time to clean house and start over.

    Consider: Any member of house or senate who voted for stimulus bill without reading it or allowing time for others to read it should be impeached. What if you signed a policy at your employment and then later admitted you did not read it or allow other principals to read it prior to signing? This is abdication of duty. Open your eyes!
    Consider: Any member of the house or senate who voted for the war in Iraq was incompetent because they did not do diligence. Regardless of what they were told they were responsible to KNOW if there were WMD. If you performed as poorly as they did in this situation at your place of employment; you would be terminated.
    Consider: Any member of the house or senate who was responsible for banking regulation / deregulation or Fanny or Freddy regulation was inept and should receive a vote of no confidence. If you were in similar circumstances and responsible for a segment that impacted the whole company, and then stood before your employer at a 4PM meeting and said the company was going to implode unless they forked out billions of $ because this same segment was failing, they would escort you out the door.
    Consider: Anyone who is working to implement healthcare reform at a time when there is no GDP because there are no jobs is at the least irresponsible. It does not take a rocket scientist to know one cannot add more tax deficit when there are less taxes being paid into the IRS. If you stood before your employer and asked for a new non-critical program in this economy, they would laugh you straight out the door.
    Consider: Any member of house or senate who denigrates an average citizen who questions their actions, is at the least “acting stupidly”. Do you think your employer would allow you to treat customers the way your fellow citizens have been treated? What if you asked a customer what planet they were from? This is the clearest example of an out of touch, self serving government, and one who needs reminded who put them there.
    Do you see what I am saying…I could go on and on…
    This is not Republican or Democrat, this is common sense. They are all incompetent. It is time to clean house and start over.

    The “earth and it’s life forms” are The Creation of The Only True GOD, Father of ALL! The “worldly” systems are the creation of, and under the dominion of “the god of this world”, he who is “the father of lies”, he who “has blinded the minds of those who believe not The Messiah”! All the nations of this world are under the dominion of, and serve, the evil one for he provides the fuel that feeds mankind’s “imag”ination, and mankind’s “imagination is destroying and perverting Creation(land, air, water, vegetation, creatures, Light, Truth, Life, Love, Peace, Faith, Simplicity, .etc.) ;-(

    Once again, the “earth and it’s life forms” are The Creation of The Only True GOD, Father of ALL! The current “worldly” systems are the creation of, and under the dominion of “the god of this world”.

    Those who “love this world” all serve “the god of this world”, and play their part in the processes that seek to destroy The Creation of The Only True GOD. “And The Only True GOD will destroy them who destroy the earth.” (Rev 11:18c)

    Global warming, polluted air, land and waters, toxic wastes, sexual perversion, evil inventions of destruction, greed, hate, carnal warfare, dis-ease ,,,etc,,, are all destructive processes that have their root in “the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life”.

    The Truth Is Alive in those who have been born of The Spirit for “they no longer love this wicked, evil world and it’s things, nor do they love their own lives in this world”.

    They but seek and desire The Will of GOD, their Father and Creator, as they await their final transformation. “Corruptible to Incorruptible” ndeed and Truth!

    Now “the ground was cursed for Adam’s sake” because he “hearkened unto the woman”.

    Adam listened to a woman rather than obeying The Only True GOD. Yet because of Faithful Noah, The Only True GOD “no longer would curse the ground for man’s sake” because Noah obeyed The Only True GOD! (Genesis 8:21-22)

    And the Faithful today are exhorted to “love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.”

    Hear, hear. I too identify with these old white men. I find their ancient anecdotes to coincide perfectly with my narrowly scoped and ignorant world view. I thank the author for being an impartial relater of truth. Mostly I’m just shocked that nearly everyone in olden time was a right winger. I had always thought that our current two party political system had undergone many changes and evolutions, but now I feel strongly that Thomas Jefferson and George Washington are and always have been easily malleable to fit my preconceived political opinions.

    But seriously, I think if I looked up Irony in the dictionary I might find this sentence:
    “Whatever the writers of this bill mean today won’t necessarily be what future Congressmen and Senators think it means, or they might warp it to fit their personal world/political view.”

    I understand why right-wingers try and retroactively appoint the founding fathers as honorary members of the republican party, but its not often that somebody goes ahead and provides an argument for why that is a dumb idea in support of their dumb idea. Feel free to pull out whatever nuggets of wisdom warm your little hearts, but keep in mind that the best of 18th century thinking probably has very little insight into today’s problems. And articles like this show how easy it is to warp just about any statement to fit the smallest of “world/political views.”

Was that not a direct reference to the evils a government, like that of King George’s, who would raise taxes without consent of the people? Aren’t practically all of these quotes about taxation (and all other government functions) without representation? We, the people, have ALL the power. If you have an argument against the President’s healthcare reforms, make it, but the constant calls for revolution and “fighting for the future of America”, I’ll argue, are astoundingly extreme and are the direct cause of middle America’s belief that the far right is nearly as nutty as the far left. That kind of talk needs to be reserved for REAL attacks on our Democracy, like a proposal to remove the vote, or something similarly crazy. Ignore the fact that the American revolution was primarily motivated by rich merchants who were tired of paying lots of taxes to England. The author is probably also of the persuasion that the democratic party of the past was in favor of slavery, so today’s democratic party must also want to take away people’s rights. Which is a good assumption to make if you completely ignore over a hundred years of American history.
