…then maybe Martin Bashir would be held accountable for his vile, premeditated attack on her.
For those who don’t know, Bashir called for someone to defecate in Sarah Palin’s mouth and urinate on her.
“What is most shocking about Thistlewood’s diary is not simply the fact that he assumes the right to own and possess other human beings, but is the sheer cruelty and brutality of his regime,” Bashir said. “In 1756, he records that a slave named Darby ‘catched eating kanes had him well flogged and pickled, then made Hector, another slave, s-h-*-t in his mouth.’”
The punishment became known as “Darby’s Dose,” the MSNBC host explained.
“And he mentions a similar incident in 1756, his time in relation to a man he refers to as Punch: ‘Flogged punch well, and then washed and rubbed salt pickle, lime juice and bird pepper, made Negro Joe piss in his eyes and mouth,’” Bashir continued.
Finally, he got to his underlying message — that if anyone is qualified for such treatment, it’s Palin.
“When Mrs. Palin invokes slavery, she doesn’t just prove her rank ignorance. She confirms if anyone truly qualified for a dose of discipline from Thomas Thistlewood, she would be the outstanding candidate,” he concluded.
Martin would later apologize with as much sincerity as Cheech and Chong’s Hamburger Man.
But as Dana Perino points out, this was a premediatated attack on Palin:
Appearing on Hannity, Perino noted that “many people had to approve what he said” because it was not like Bashir made an off-the-cuff remark. Perino said there was a graphic on the screen and Bashir’s misogynistic remarks were loaded into a Teleprompter.
“It wasn’t an accident,” she said. “That was a premeditated attack on Governor Palin.”
Bashir claimed that nobody at MSNBC besides himself was responsible for his vileness, saying in his apology that his “wholly unacceptable” and “offensive” words “have brought shame upon my friends and colleagues at this network, none of whom were responsible for the things that I said.”
Unlike Alex Baldwin’s spontaneous rant featuring anti-gay slurs, Bashir’s was written out ahead of time. Baldwin apologized, but was still suspended.
Why hasn’t Bashir been punished?
Because this is Sarah Palin, a Christian conservative. She’s not a protected class.
If she were a lesbian, and liberal, Bashir would be on his way back to Great Britain.
