I do my be to defend these guys, because I know they are only doing what some faceless government bureaucrat has said to do via written proceudre, but there comes a time when you have to recognize the foul, disgusting action you are about to take and say, “No. I will not make a 95 year old woman suffer this indignity in her dying days.”
These TSA agents did not exercise that prerogative:
Jean Weber of Destin filed a complaint with the Department of Homeland Security after her 95-year-old mother was detained and extensively searched last Saturday while trying to board a plane to fly to Michigan to be with family members during the final stages of her battle with leukemia.
Her mother, who was in a wheelchair, was asked to remove an adult diaper in order to complete a pat-down search.
“It’s something I couldn’t imagine happening on American soil,” Weber said Friday. “Here is my mother, 95 years old, 105 pounds, barely able to stand, and then this.”
Sari Koshetz, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration in Miami, said she could not comment on specific cases to protect the privacy of those involved.
“The TSA works with passengers to resolve any security alarms in a respectful and sensitive manner,” she said.
Apparently, Ms. Koshetz, the don’t. They follow what the book says to do in a certain situation, regardless of what common sense and decency says to do.
Koshetz said the procedures are the same for everyone to ensure national security.
“TSA cannot exempt any group from screening because we know from intelligence that there are terrorists out there that would then exploit that vulnerability,” she said.
That’s why this happened. Because the government wants everyone treated with equal suspicion. While that sounds nice, it’s not realiztic. There are not a lot of 95 year old bombers hiding Semtex in their Depends. If that is a real threat, I want the evidence. Show me the remnants of some geriatric terrorists soiled splody-diaper.
You can’t because it’s never happened. Oh, but if we let this lady through, then terrorists will start recruiting at the old folks home and Depends conventions for people willing to sit in their own feces before blowing up a plane.
You know what you call an old terrorist? A failure. These guys aren’t threats because if they were, they’d have died when they were young.
But government logic says there’s no difference between a 95 year old, wheelchair bound cancer patient wearing adult diapers and any of the young, Islamic man terrorists that predominantly engage in terrorist attacks.
